Unfortunately, not long after his arrival, he was pulled into a street-brawl, in which he was bitten by an unknown werewolf. He was taken to the local hospital with a cracked rib and minor lacerations. It was there that his new problem was discovered. He was shortly informed that due to this new problem, he was no-longer allowed to leave the island and was sent stumbling out into the night in the direction of the home of Dr. Martin West. Stuff ensued, and in the end, West couldn’t get rid of the grad-student. Douglas became his assistant—doing various chores and helping out with experiments. In general, he's an easily adaptable guy, and has come to accept his current situation, but in his quieter moments, he's known to climb up onto the roof of West's house, and gaze out over the wall that surrounds the island-- He hopes that one day he may be completely free to leave the island. And never return.
